Kawhatau Valley - Mangaweka
A unique rural stay steeped in history
Step into a quieter pace of life at the Historic Shearers Quarters, a beautifully restored piece of rural New Zealand heritage set among peaceful farmland and open hill country. Over 120 years old, the quarters once housed shearers and their cook during the shearing season, and today they offer a genuine slice of country history with the comforts of a thoughtfully cared-for retreat.
Inside you will find antique furniture, the old Shacklock stove, bone china, woollen blankets, books and fresh flowers, alongside a well-equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, quality linen, heating, electric blankets and a bath or shower.
Free private on-site parking, private check-in and check-out, a picnic area and outdoor seating make arriving easy, and pets are welcome by arrangement. Please note this is a historic building with steps and no ramps, and there is no internet access on site - part of the reason it feels so restful.
